Meet The Team

Jennifer Childs (she/her) (Writer/Perfomer): Jen is the Producing Artistic Director and Co-Founder of 1812 Productions. For 1812 she has created over 25 original works of comedic theater including The Carols, To the Moon, It’s My Party: The Women and Comedy Project and their annual political humor show This Is the Week That Is. Her solo shows Why I’m Scared of Dance and I Will Not Go Gently have been performed across the country including City Theatre in Pittsburgh and the Kohler Performing Arts Center in Wisconsin. Recent directing credits outside 1812 include What the Constitution Means to Me at the Arden, Noises Off at Delaware Theatre Company and Last of the Red Hot Lovers at the Walnut. She also collaborated with composer Alex Bechtel on Alice in Wonderland: A Musical Panto at People’s Light. Love to Scott and Lily. For Tyler.

Sean Close (he/him) (Writer/Performer): Sean is super pumped to be back at 1812 Productions! Recent 1812 credits: This Is The Week That Is (News Anchor/ Ensemble); The God Project (Drew); Hope & Gravity (Steve). Pax Ressler (they/she) (Writer/Performer/Music Director & Arranger): Pax is a non-binary performer, devisor, music director, and composer working at the intersections of theatre and music as well as arts and advocacy. They have performed and collaborated with Arden Theatre Company, Bearded Ladies Cabaret, People’s Light, Theatre Exile, Theatre Horizon, Shakespeare in Clark Park, Wilma Theater and more. Pax is a passionate advocate and organizer of the local non-binary and trans theatre community with Genderfunk Philly (@genderfunkphilly), an Instagram rolodex of trans and non-binary theatre artists. She also leads Rise Choir (@risechoircollective), a paid, non-audition collective of singers invigorating community spaces with joy and solidarity. Pax’s work as a composer (including “Contradict This!” and “Rose: You Are Who You Eat”) has been performed at the The Guggenheim, La Mama Etc, and is coming to Woolly Mammoth in June 2024. They are thrilled to return to This Is The Week for the fifth time! paxressler.com 

Jackie Soro (she/they) (Writer/Performer): Jackie is a Philadelphia-based artist, singer, and collaborative theater-maker. Recent credits as a creator-performer include: co-directing & performing in the Bearded Ladies Cabaret’s Late Night Snacks queer cabaret festival; Emily Bate’s Wig Wag; Inis Nua’s Meet Me At Dawn; and Team Sunshine Performance’s touring production of Your Optimism is Not Required. Their work as a creator-performer has appeared on many stages, including Ars Nova, LaMama ETC, FringeArts, Christchurch Neighborhood House, the Village of Arts & Humanities, Trade School Festival, the Center for the Arts at Kayenta, 1812 Productions, and DIY venues across Philadelphia. Thank you to my family, blood and chosen. 

Lexi Thammavong (they/she) (Writer/Performer): Lexi is an actor, singer, and playwright from Philly. She obtained her BFA in Musical Theatre with a minor in Creative Writing from The University of the Arts. Lex has worked with companies such as Theater Horizon (Pamela, Head Over Heels), 1812 Productions (This Is The Week That Is), PAC (Helen, Jane Eyre), the Media Theatre (Mimi, Rent), Delaware Shakespeare (Ariel, The Tempest), and many others. As a proud Southeast Asian, Latine, and queer actor, they are interested in the potential to explore and deconstruct the classical canon from a decolonized lens. As a member of PlayPenn’s playwriting group, The Foundry, and resident playwright with Philadelphia Asian Performing Artists, they are also passionate about writing, devising, and performing in new works that center BIPOC, queer & otherwise marginalized people, re-defining “the canon”, and creating space new one to take root. 

Robyn Unger(she/her) (Writer/Performer): Robyn is delighted to be working with such a wonderful group of people, and to be back in Philadelphia for her second round of This Is The Week That Is! She is a Brooklyn/Philly-based actor with TexMex roots. Most recently she has performed at Philly Fringe, Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, Exquisite Corpse Co., Eagle Theatre, NYC Children’s Theater, Garage Theatre, Gretna Theatre, and 1812 Productions. When she isn’t on stage, Robyn also works as an urban farmer, cultivating vegetables atop rooftops in Manhattan and Brooklyn. She enjoys painfully spicy food, leveraging her status as the youngest sibling, and riling up her beloved Brussels Griffon, Gregory. BFA NYU. Thanks and love to Parental/Sibling Units, and Greg. 

Melanie Cotton (she/her) (Co-Director/ Choreographer): Melanie is a Philly native who works in and around the greater Philadelphia area as a choreographer, dancer, actor and teaching artist. Her performance and creative practice integrates various forms into her work: clown, musical theater, improvisation, hiphop, and street dance styles. Melanie’s work as a choreographer has been featured in The Legend of Georgia McBride (Arden Theatre), This Is The Week That Is (1812 Productions), The Appointment (Lighting Rod Special), TJ Loves Sally 4Ever (Theater Horizon), Love Notes: A year of no regrets (The Bearded Ladies Cabaret), Alice in Wonderland: A Musical Panto (People’s Light) and more! Her performance credits include In The Heights (Walnut Street Theatre), It’s My Party (1812 Productions), The Swamp is on (Pig Iron) Allan Kaprow’s ‘Chicken’ [1962] (Reinvented by Alex Da Corte) and most recently The Play That Goes Wrong (1812 Productions). Melanie is excited to be back at 1812 Productions for This Is The Week That Is! 

Mikaela Boone (she/her) (Co-Director): Mikaela is an early career director and producer thrilled to be working with the This Is The Week ensemble and to be co-directing with Mel Cotton! Mikaela serves as 1812’s artistic and development assistant, an Associate Producer with Suli Holum / The Work, and as an Artistic Producer at FringeArts. Her recent credits include: Director for New Ventures Play Festival (PAC), Men On Boats (Pennsylvania Players), Grimly Handsome (Yale College), and Assistant Director for What The Constitution Means to Me (Arden) The Play That Goes Wrong, and Broads (1812 Productions). Alfonso Valdespino (he/him) (Understudy/Run Crew): Alfonso is a first generation Mexican American, originally from the Chicagoland Area. Alfonso is entering his second year living in Philadelphia and his second year here with 1812! Alfonso was a part of last season’s This Is The Week That Is (2022) as well as The Play That Goes Wrong! Enjoy the show and Happy Holidays! 

June Wolfson (she/her) (Special Guest): June is thrilled to be back on the stage, thanks to 1812, after a 30 year hiatus. She was Dorothy in The Wiz, Wilma in Lovers and Other Strangers, and a court stenographer in The Night of January 16, all at the William Penn Charter School where her sons were students! She hasn’t been nominated for any awards yet, but June is ever hopeful and has her acceptance speech ready. And after many years of theater encouragement to her four big guys... Joe, Henry, Tucker and Dallas, she finally got an actor... Thank you, Dallas!! 

Clare Osman (she/her) (Special Guest): After creating the role of Angie (and playing her since 2011!), Clare is happy to be back, especially with the opportunity to work with the wonderfully talented June Wolfson. Thanks as always to Jen for her creative talents, and to Dewaine who continues to make all things possible! 

Tom Shotkin (he/him) (News Writer): Other than occasionally writing and performing, Tom has also dabbled in stage managing with 1812 (since 2002). Favorite shows include: The Play That Goes Wrong, This Is The Week That Is, I Will Not Go Gently, Our Show of Shows, To The Moon, The Four of Us, Bat Boy: The Musical. Other SM credits: The 39 Steps at Montgomery Theater, People’s Light, Theatre Exile, Arden Theatre Company, Arena Stage (DC), Barnstormers Theatre (NH). Tom has also worked for PlayPenn, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Hartford Stage Company, Azuka Theatre, and Boarshead Theatre (MI). Tom lives with his partner, MB, and their killer cat, Dex.

Leigh Paradise (she/her) (Costume Designer): Leigh is a costumer and custom clothier based in southeastern PA. She is thrilled to return for another year of hilarity and fun with 1812. Her design credits include Crumbs from the Table of Joy (Lantern Theater Company), Intimate Apparel (Desales University, Act 1), Sense and Sensibility (Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival), The Importance of Being Earnest (DeSales University, Act 1), Last of the Red Hot Lovers (Walnut Street Theatre), Town (Theatre Horizon), and Bayard Rustin: Inside Ashland (People’s Light). She would like to thank 1812 for inviting her to return, her assistant Bridget Brennan for all the organizational help and hard work, and her family for their endless patience and support.

Amanda Jensen (she/her) (Lighting Designer): Amanda is a Philadelphia based lighting designer, and is delighted to be back at 1812 for this season’s This Is The Week That Is. Amanda has also designed for The Arden (No Child, So Far, Treasure Island, Snow White), The Lantern (Lifespan of a Fact, The Heir Apparent), Theatre Exile (Abandon, D-Pad, Really), Inis Nua (A Holy Show, A Hundred Words for Snow, The Monster in the Hall, Love Lies and Taxidermy, The Swallowing Dark, Radiant Vermin, Spine), Almanac Dance Circus Theatre (The Edge, Communitas Five Years Later, Jeanne/Jean/John/ Jawn, XOXO Moongirl), Missing Bolts Theatre Co.(Rail), Delaware Shakespeare Co. (The Tempest, Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Gunnar Montana Productions (Kink Haus, Wroughtland). Her work as a lighting designer has been exhibited at the 2019 Prague Quadrennial as part of the USITT/USA exhibition of professional designers.

Liz McDonald (Props Designer): Liz McDonald: is thrilled to be back with 1812 after propping The Play That Goes Wrong last season. She works as a freelance prop designer and set dresser and has designed, taught, directed and performed all over the Philadelphia and Chicagoland areas for the last 24 years. She served as the Stage Manager for the Young Actor’s series at Montgomery Theater for several seasons where she also received a Barrymore nomination for their production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and was the former Production Manager at Steel River Playhouse and the PM and Company Manager at Act II Playhouse. By day, Liz is the Assistant General Manager at People’s Light. Enjoy the show! 
Colin McIlvaine (he/him) (Scenic Design): Colin is a Philadelphiabased, Barrymore nominated scenic designer named as one of American Theatre Magazine’s 20 People to Watch. Recent credits include: Putnam County Spelling Bee, School Girls (Arden Theatre Company); One Man, Two Guvnors (Delaware Theatre Company). Colin’s recent associate design credits include: A Christmas Carol (Guthrie Theater); Le Roi Arthus (Bard SummerScape); Pipeline (Lincoln Center). In addition to his freelance career, Colin is adjunct faculty for Villanova University. B.A. University of Maryland; MFA Scenic Design Temple University. www.colinmcilvaine.com

Natali Merrill (she/her) (Sound Designer): Natali is a sound and technology designer and engineer excited to return to 1812 Productions! Based in Philadelphia, she has been the sound designer for productions including Broads (1812 Productions), Spring Awakening (Bryn Mawr College), High Noon (Ninth Planet), Shakespeare’s R&J (New Light Theatre Company), Fucking A (Swarthmore College), Riot Antigone and Cabaret (Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges). She has worked with Theatre Exile, 11th Hour Theatre Company, the Bearded Ladies Cabaret, New Century Theatre Company in Seattle, and the Williamstown Theatre Festival. A graduate of Haverford College with a major in physics, she researched and wrote a thesis on acoustics in performance halls with RWTH Aachen University in Aachen, Germany. Michael Long (he/him) (Video Designer): Michael Long does freelance film and theatre work in the Philadelphia area. He graduated from Drexel University with a B.S. in Film and Video production. Bridget Brennan (she/her) (Assistant Costume Designer): Bridget is a Costumer and Licensed Cosmetologist based in Philadelphia. Currently Wardrobe Head at the Miller Theater and a member of IATSE Local 799, Bridget has spent over a decade working Wardrobe in various capacities, where she discovered her love of wigs and hair. Her recent Wig Design credits include Boca and Steel Magnolias (Act II Playhouse), Sunday In The Park With George, Chrysalis, and Curtains (Villanova Theatre), YEAH BABY (Resident Ensemble Players). Bridget holds a B.A. in Technical Theatre from DeSales University, a Certificate in Wig Construction from DePaul University, and a Cosmetology Certificate from Paul Mitchell the School.
Matthew Luppino (Stage Manager): Matthew is thrilled to be back in Philly, and making his 1812 debut! Broadway: Bandstand, The Illusionists: Turn of the Century. Off-Broadway/NYC: The Public Theatre, The Pearl Theatre Company, The Actors Studio Drama School Rep. Select Regional: McCarter Theatre Center, Walnut Street Theatre, People’s Light, Montana Repertory Theatre, Geva Theatre Center, Eagle Theatre, Hangar Theatre, Barrington Stage Company, and 4 seasons with Shakespeare and Company. Matthew is a proud alum of The College of New Jersey and member of Actors’ Equity Association.

Julia Levis (they/them) (Assistant Stage Manager/COVID-19 Safety Manager): Julia is a Philadelphia-based freelance theater artist and stage manager with a degree in Theater from Temple University. They have been with 1812 for the past four years and are thrilled to safely return to in-person shows. Much love to all the people who support their local artists! 

Nick Seymour (he/him) (Production Manager): Nick is in his first full season at 1812 following his role as Production Manager for The Play That Goes Wrong and a number of other positions with the company over the years. Recent credits around Philadelphia include sound design for 10 Dates with Mad Mary (Inis Nua) and set design and carpentry for The Girl in the Machine (Players Club of Swarthmore). Nick is currently a Board Member and Technical Director for the Mask and Wig Club. He is also a Shop Supervisor and showcase Stage Manager for the UPenn Performing Arts Council. jnickseymour.com 

Simon Rabinowitz (Assistant Production Manager): Simon is a producer, administrator, dramaturg, and general theatrical dabbler. Simon is excited to be a part of a show he has long admired, and he is even more excited to be so Close to Sean. He currently serves as the Fringe Festival Coordinator for the Philly Fringe Festival, and works as an Assistant to the Artistic Director for the Cape Cod Theatre Project. Simon was born and raised in Philly, and has been described as “comedic,” “original,” and “All Performances at: Plays & Players Theatre” so he feels right at home at 1812. He sends love to his Mom, Dad, Sam, and his 3 true friends (they know who they are). 
Julie Padovan (she/her) (Wardrobe Crew): Julie Padovan is a 2021 graduate from the University of the Arts where she graduated with a BFA in Theater Design and Technology and a minor in art history. Since graduating, she has designed for Drexel University’s 2022 Winter and Spring Concerts and was the assistant costume designer at Theater Horizon on James Ijames’s TJ Loves Sally 4Ever (2022). She has also done wardrobe on various productions including the Walnut Street Theater’s Cinderella (2022), Rocky The Musical (2022), Theater Horizon’s Town (2022) and 1812 Productions’ This Is The Week That Is (Spring 2022). 

Ess (they/them) (Apprentice): Ess is a current graduate student at Drexel University, pursuing a Master of Science in Arts Administration. They are an alumnus and Vintage Purple of the University of Montevallo, where they received their BFA in Acting. During their time on Purple Victory, they served as a script editor for the 2021 and 2022 College Night season. Ess is now currently working on a workplace comedy in collaboration with their colleague, Morgan Jennings. Ess hopes to one day be a producer of books to movies and TV shows with a specific focus on untold BIPOC and LGBTQ+ stories. They believe that every story should get a chance to be seen by the public eye. Ess’s hobbies include reading, collecting comic books, and cross-stitching.

Aubrey Gleason (she/they) (1812/UArts Intern): Aubrey is currently a freshman at the University of the Arts studying stage management. She is so excited to be interning on this production and meeting so many great people and minds and cannot be happier for this experience. She has been in theatre for a little over 2 years and has stage managed or assistant stage managed a total of 10 shows including Fun Home, Puffs, Cinderella, and Sister Act.

Jaime Konowal (she/her) (General Manager): Jaime has been with 1812 for 15 seasons. Jaime has worked in the Arts for many years, starting her career at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, before moving to Rutgers Camden Center for the Arts as the Box Office and Assistant Marketing Manager. Jaime is a graduate of the Art Institute of Philadelphia with a Bachelor of Science in Interactive Media and Design. Jaime is currently the Rectors Warden at Gloria Dei (Old Swedes’) Episcopal Church. In her free time, Jaime enjoys spending time with her family and friends, screenprinting, and watching a good crime documentary. I love you Nora and Teddy.
